Download & Install Guide:

  1. Download the WXP01C0.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the WXP01C0.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "BIOS WXP01C0 Update Utility" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically.
  4. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, insert the SONY System Recovery CD #1 into the DVDROM or CDRW/DVDROM drive.
  5. Verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and click Finish. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the Recovery CD instead of the hard drive. The PhoenixPhlash™ Utility will launch.
  6. At the "Phoenix Phlash Utility" box, press the Y key. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically turn off.
  7. Turn on the computer.
  8. At the black "SONY" screen, quickly press the eject button on the DVDROM or CDRW/DVDROM drive to eject the Recovery CD before the computer can boot from it again.
    NOTE: If the Recovery CD is not removed in time, and a "System Recovery CD" screen appears, follow these steps:
    1. Press the C key to cancel the Recovery process.
    2. Eject the Recovery CD from the drive.
    3. At the "A:/>" prompt, press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys simultaneously to restart to the notebook.
  9. At the black "SONY" screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.
  10. At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
  11. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is highlighted.
  12. Press ENTER.
  13. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
  14. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press ENTER.
  15. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS is complete.

What this drivers do:

This utility updates the BIOS for operating system compatibility.

Important Note:

  • Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
  • Please read the Sony Windows® XP Upgrade Information page, if the computer will be or has been upgraded to the Windows® XP operating system. If the new operating system is not installed or configured correctly, some updates may not install properly.
  • If you have converted the C:/ hard drive partition from the factory-shipped FAT32 file system to the NTFS format, this update will not install correctly.
  • Before installing this update, you will need to have the DVDROM or CDRW/DVDROM drive installed in the internal drive bay. You will also need the Sony System Recovery CD #1 to complete the BIOS installation.
  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
