1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the CD/DVD Drive installed on the computer, to determine whether or not this update is required.
   1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
   2. At the "Control panel" window, click the System icon.
   3. At the "System properties" box, click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
   4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives category to expand the menu.
   5. The second device listed should be "TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SDR6012" If it is, please continue with this update. If it is not, do not continue with the steps below because this update is not for your system.
2. Download the TO-41S330802EB.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the TO-41S330802EB.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "To rewrite firmware, change your system settings and reboot. ..." message box, click OK. The firmware update will continue after the computer has restarted.
5. At the "[CAUTION]....." message box, click OK.
6. At the "DVD Drive" message box, confirm that "Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R6012" is highlighted, and click the "Update Start" button.
7. At the "Information" screen, click OK to start the flash firmware upgrade. Please wait while the DVD-RW ROM firmware is upgraded.
   WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
8. At the "Firmware update is completed....." message box. click OK.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Toshiba® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update Utility is complete.

This utility updates Toshiba® SD-R6012 DVD-RW Drive Firmware to enhance the drive performance when reading CD/DVD media and when writing media with the Drag'n Drop CD+DVD software application.

• Before installing this firmware update, disconnect all peripheral devices except the AC adapter, disconnect any network cables and remove any PC cards that are inserted in the system. Do not enter Standby or Hibernation mode during this update.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs (including screensavers and virus detection). The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
