1. Download the R0205K2.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the R0205K2.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Windows XP BIOS Update" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the notebook model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically. The Windows XP BIOS Update Disk Setup will launch.
4. At the "Information" box, insert your prepared 3½ bootable floppy disk into the drive (A:).
5. Click OK to begin copying the BIOS installation files onto the bootable floppy disk.
6. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and then click Finish. Leave the bootable floppy disk with the BIOS files in the floppy drive. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. The PhoenixPhlash™ Utility will launch. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically turn off.
7. Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
8. Turn on the computer.
9. At the black "VAIO" screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.
10. At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
11. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is highlighted.
12. Press ENTER.
13. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
14. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press ENTER.
15. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS is complete.

BIOS Update Utility, Revision R0205K2 for the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating Systems

• Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
• Before installing this update, you will need to prepare a 3½ bootable floppy disk to receive the BIOS installation files. For additional assistance, please see Creating a Bootable Floppy Disk for Windows XP BIOS Updates.
• Before installing this or any other Windows XP update, please be sure to read Sony's Installing the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating Systems document. If the new operating system is not installed or configured correctly, some updates may not install correctly.
• Before installing this BIOS revision, you will also need to have the floppy disk inserted in the notebook's internal drive bay.
• If the Windows XP upgrade is already installed:  During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
