1. Download the PI-404200801AV04US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PI-404200801AV04US.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update Utility for Microsoft® Windows® XP" window, click Next.
4. Read the Software License Agreement and, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
5. At the message box with the text "1 target device(s) is found. Do you want to upgrade all drives?", click Yes.
   Please wait while the update performs the DVD-RW firmware upgrade. Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
6. At the "Upgrade operation is completed " box, click OK.
7. At the "Finished" screen, click Finish and then click OK to restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update is complete.
NOTE: After updating the drive firmware, the DVD-RW drive may be listed under My Computer as a "CD Drive." If this occurs, restart the computer again to change the drive name to "DVD-R Drive."

This program updates the firmware for the Pioneer DVR-104 DVD-RW drive. It improves the drive performance when writing to CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW media and also provides the following enhancements:

• 2x speed writing is now supported on most high speed DVD-R media.
• DVD writing with VERITAS® RecordNow DX software is improved.

• WARNING: This update is specifically for Pioneer DVR-104 DVD-RW drive and its variants. This update will automatically install the appropriate version (1.40 or 4.20) of the firmware based on the version of DVR-104 in your system. Do not run this update if you do not have one of these drives in the computer as it may render the drive or system inoperable. Use the steps below to check whether or not your computer has the Pioneer® DVR-104 DVD-RW Drive installed.
• Please be aware that high-speed (2x) burning generally requires high-quality media. Certian brands of media that are labeled as 2x speed capable may not be able to be burned at 2x speed reliably.
• After updating the drive firmware, the DVD-RW drive may show up under My Computer as a "CD Drive." If this occurs, restart the computer to update the drive name to "DVD-R Drive."
• Please eject any discs that may be in the DVD-RW drive before running this update.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
