1. Download the PHA3U0XNG4.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the "PHA3U0XNG4.EXE" file to begin the installation.
3. At the "BIOS WXP03U0 Installation Utility For Windows XP - InstallShield Wizard" box, click "Next". Several setup boxes may briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically. The Windows XP BIOS Update Disk Setup will launch.
4. At the "Information" window, insert a blank 3½ floppy diskette into the floppy disk drive (A:) and click "OK"
5. At the "Creating the CRISIS diskette on drive A:" screen, press "ENTER".
6. At the "The CRISIS diskette in drive A: is being formatted" screen, press "ENTER". Please wait while the floppy is formatted.
7. At the "Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?" prompt, type in a name (such as BIOSUPD) and press "ENTER".
8. At the "QuickFormat another (Y/N)?" prompt, press the "N" key and press "ENTER".
9. Press "ENTER" a second time to continue. Please wait while the BIOS installation files are copied to the floppy disk.
10. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press "ENTER".
    NOTE: Please wait while the BIOS installation disk is made bootable.
11. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press "ENTER".
12. At the "CRISIS diskette on drive A: successfully created" screen, leave the floppy disk in the drive and press "ENTER".
13. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and click "Finish".
    NOTE: Be sure to leave the floppy disk with the BIOS files in the floppy drive.
14. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. The Phoenix Phlash Utility will launch.
15. At the "Phoenix Phlash Utility" box, press the "Y" key to begin the update process.
    NOTE: Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically turn off.
16. Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
17. Turn on the computer.
18. At the black "SONY" screen, press the "F2" key to enter the BIOS Setup.
19. At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press the "ESC" key.
20. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is highlighted.
21. Press "ENTER".
22. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press "ENTER".
23. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press "ENTER".
24. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press "ENTER".

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS is complete.

• If additional memory has been installed on this computer either by you or your retailer, DO NOT install this BIOS update. Computers containing extra RAM when the BIOS update is installed may be rendered inoperable.
• Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
• It is highly recommended to install this BIOS before upgrading to Microsoft® Windows® XP.
• Please have a bootable floppy diskette available before proceeding to this BIOS update. Bootable floppy diskette can be created by formatting a blank diskette with the "Create an MS-DOS startup disk" option enabled. For additional assistance, please see Creating a Bootable Floppy Disk. You will also need to have the VAIO® SlimDock™ with floppy disk drive connected to the computer.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
