1. Download the PH-A36E00802BL04US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double click the PH-A36E00802BL04US.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "BIOS R0236E0 Update Utility for Microsoft Windows XP" box, click Next.
4. At the "License Agreement" box, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree". Please wait while the update extracts the necessary files for the update.
5. At the "Phoenix WinPhlash for VAIO" box, click Browse.
6. At the "Specify the New BIOS File" box, double click the R00236E0.WPH file.
7. Confirm that the text box below "Specify new BIOS file:" displays "R00236E0.WPH", then click FlashBIOS.
8. At the "Phoenix WinPhlash for VAIO" Warning box, click OK.
9. At the "System BIOS was successfully updated" screen, click Shutdown. Please wait while the utility updates the BIOS.
10. After the system shuts down, wait for a few seconds, then turn on the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS update utility is completed.

This utility updates the computer system BIOS to improve system compatibility with the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System Service Pack 1 and resolves the following issue:

• After installing the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System Service Pack 1, the computer does not respond when a USB 2.0 hard drive is connected via an NEC® USB 2.0 PC card.

WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is either running from AC power or using a fully charged battery pack. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
• Before installing this BIOS update, ensure that all peripheral devices are disconnected.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
