1. Download the PH-A12K50802IK.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PH-A12K50802IK.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "BIOS R0121K5 Update Utility For Windows XP - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically. The Windows XP BIOS Update Disk Setup will launch.
4. At the "Information" window, insert a blank 3½ floppy diskette to the floppy disk drive (A:) and click OK.
5. At the "Creating the CRISIS diskette on drive A:" screen, press ENTER.
   WARNING!!: All the data in the floppy will be erased.
6. At the "The CRISIS diskette in drive A: is being formatted" screen, press ENTER. Please wait as the floppy is formatted.
7. At the "Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?" prompt, type in a name (such as BIOSUPD) and press ENTER.
8. At the "QuickFormat another (Y/N)?" prompt, press the N key and press ENTER.
9. Press ENTER a second time to continue. Please wait as the BIOS installation files are copied to the floppy disk.
10. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER. Please wait as the BIOS installation disk is made bootable.
11. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER.
12. At the "CRISIS diskette on drive A: successfully created" screen, leave the floppy disk in the drive and press ENTER.
13. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and click Finish. Be sure to leave the bootable floppy disk with the BIOS files in the floppy drive.
14. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. The PhoenixPhlash Utility will launch. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically turn off.
15. Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
16. Turn on the computer.
17. At the black "SONY" screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.
18. At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
19. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is highlighted.
20. Press ENTER.
21. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
22. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press ENTER.
23. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS update utility is complete.

• A blue screen appears while using the Adobe® Photoshop® Elements application to add or remove color on an enlarged image (picture) file.
• After installing Windows XP Service Pack 1, the computer freezes due to a system conflict that occurs with Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) 317277 which is contained in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
• After installing Windows XP Service Pack 1, the computer hangs when a USB 2.0 hard drive is connected via a NEC USB 2.0 PCMCIA PC card.

• WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is either running from AC power or using a fully charged battery pack. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
• Before installing this BIOS update, please connect a floppy disk drive to the computer and make sure you have a blank 3½ floppy disk available. This program will format and create a bootable disk. All the data in the floppy will be erased when the disk is formatted!
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
