1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD/CD-RW Drive installed in the computer, which will determine whether or not this update is required.
   1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
   2. Double-click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
   3. Double-click the System icon.
   4. Click the Hardware tab.
   5. Click the Device Manager button.
   6. Double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon.
   7. The list of DVD/CD-ROM devices should display a "Matsushita UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW". If this device is not displayed, do not continue with the steps below because this firmware update should not be applied to your computer.
2. Download the MS-401010C02HL03US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MS-401010C02HL03US.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "Matsushita® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware Update for Microsoft® Windows® XP and 2000" box, click Next.
5. At the "F/W Loader UJDA745 ver1.01 for VAIO" box, click OK.
6. At the next "F/W Loader UJDA745 ver1.01 for VAIO" box, click OK At this point the drive will be updated with the new firmware. This process may take a few minutes.
   IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not close the ejected drive until after the firmware update is complete.
7. When the window with the text "Successfully completed" is displayed, click EXIT.
8. At the "Finished" box, click Finish.
9. At the "Shutdown" box, click OK. The computer will shutdown.
10. After the computer has powered off, wait a few seconds, then power on the computer.

After the computer starts, the installation of the Matsushita® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware Update is complete.

This utility will update the Matsushita® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware to improve the drive's reliability when burning CD media.

• This firmware update is specifically for Matsushita® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW drives. Do not run this update if you do not have one of these drives in the computer.
• Please eject any CDs or DVDs that may be in the DVD/CD-RW drive before running this update.
• During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
