1. Download the HIFOPD-00724102-UN.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the HIFOPD-00724102-UN.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Hitachi-LG® GWA-4082B DVD-RW Drive Firmware for Microsoft® Windows® XP" screen, click "Next".
4. At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree".
5. At the "DriveUpdater" message box, confirm that "HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B..." is highlighted, and click "UPDATE".
   NOTE: Please wait while the DVD-RW ROM firmware is upgraded.
   WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
6. At the "Updating was completed successfully. Please reboot the PC." message, click "REBOOT" to restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Hitachi-LG® DVD-RW Drive Firmware update is complete.

This utility updates the Hitachi-LG® DVD-RW firmware to version A06 and adds support for double-layer DVD media.

• WARNING!!: This firmware update is specifically for Hitachi-LG® GWA-4082B DVD-RW drives. Do not run this update if you do not have one of these drives in the computer, as it may render the drive or system inoperable.
• BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD/CD Drive installed on the computer, to determine whether or not this update is required.
  1. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel".
  2. At the "Control Panel" window, click the "System" icon.
  3. At the "System properties" box, click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" button.
  4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the "+" sign next to the "DVD/CD-ROM drives" category to expand the menu.
  5. One of the devices listed should be "HL-DT ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B". If it is, please continue with this update. If it is not, then this update is not for your computer.
• Before launching the firmware update, it is necessary to disconnect all peripherals devices, and disconnect all network cables.
• Please eject any discs that may be in the DVD-RW drive before you run this update.
• Do not enter Standby or Hibernation mode during the installation of this update.
• During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
