Download & Install Guide:
- Download the FRMWR430.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the FRMWR430.EXE file to begin the installation.
- At the "Hard Drive Firmware Update for Windows 2000 - Welcome" box, click Continue.
- At the "Hard Disk Drive Firmware Upgrade Utility" screen, click Next.
- At the "Copying Files" screen, insert a formatted bootable floppy disk in the disk drive (A:) and then click Next.
- At the "Setup Complete" screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" and then click Finish. Be sure to leave the floppy disk in the floppy drive. The computer will boot from the floppy disk and run the firmware update utility. The utility will begin by checking the hard disk drive's current firmware revision.
- When prompted, press any alphanumeric key to display the results:
- If the hard drive is not an affected model, the utility will display *E100 - Drive vender is not HITACHI, Ltd.. The hard drive in this notebook does not require updating. Continue with step 11.
- If the hard drive is an affected model and already has the updated firmware installed, the utility will display port 0 master DK23AA-60 Firmware A0G2 Already Exit. The hard drive in this notebook does not require updating. Continue with step 11.
- If the hard drive is an affected model and does require the updated firmware, the utility will display *E101 - Firmware is old revision. The hard drive in this notebook does require updating. Press the "1" key and then press ENTER begin the update process. Please wait as the update will take approximately two minutes to complete. Once the update process is complete, the computer will display a command prompt (A:). Continue with step 11.
- Please eject the update disk from the floppy disk drive.
- Press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys simultaneously to restart the computer.
What this drivers do:
This utility updates the hard drive firmware and resolves the issue where the computer stop responding during startup.
Important Note:
- If the Windows 2000 BIOS Update has already been installed, and the computer boots successfully into Windows 2000, it is not necessary to install this update.
- This update will only create the firmware upgrade disk when it is run in Windows 98 Second Edition (SE). This file will not run correctly under the Windows 2000 operating system. Sony strongly recommends installing this update before installing the BIOS Version W2K05K1 Upgrade Utility (BIOS05K1.EXE) for Windows 2000.
- After successfully upgrading the firmware on an affected hard disk drive, you will not be able to restore the earlier version of firmware.
- Before installing this update, be sure the computer is connected to AC power.
- To install this upgrade, you will need to create a bootable floppy disk to receive the firmware update files. To prepare a floppy disk for use with this update, please refer to the Create A Bootable Floppy Disk procedure.
- During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
