1. Download the ESSA5M4.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the ESSA5M4.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "ESS Audio & Modem Drivers for Windows Millennium Edition - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
4. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and then click Finish. As the computer restarts, the ESS audio and modem hardware will be redetected and the updated drivers will be installed.

The installation of the ESS Audio and Modem Drivers are complete.

Uninstall Instructions

If it is necessary to reinstall the ESS Audio/Modem Driver, you will need to first remove the ESSA5M4.EXE installation files. To do so, please follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
2. At the "Control Panel" menu, click Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. At the "Add/Remove Programs" box, from the "Currently installed programs" list, click the "ESS Audio & Modem Drivers v5.12, 4.43 for WinMe" entry to highlight it.
4. Click the "Add/Remove" button. Please wait as the files are uninstalled.
5. Click OK to close the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" box.
6. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.

The uninstallation process is complete. You may redownload and reinstall the ESSA5M4.EXE file.

This update resolves the issue where the modem is unable to dial out.

• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
