1. Download the AWA002XDAX.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the AWA002XDAX.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. At the "Award® BIOS Update Disk - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next. Several setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the computer model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close automatically.
   NOTE: If an "Information" box appears prompting you to reboot the system, click OK. After the computer restarts, please continue with step 5 above.
4. At the prompt to insert the bootable disk, insert your prepared 3½ bootable floppy disk into the drive.
5. Click OK to begin copying the BIOS files onto the bootable floppy disk.
6. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, leave the floppy diskette in the drive, and select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now," and click Finish. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive.
7. At the "Do you want to update BIOS(3002) for [Computer Model](y/n)?" prompt, press the Y key. The Sony BIOS Flash Program will launch and start the BIOS installation. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically restart.
8. At the black "SONY" screen, press F2 to enter BIOS Setup.
9. Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
10. At the "AwardBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
11. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Load Setup Defaults" is highlighted.
12. Press ENTER.
13. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
14. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit Saving Changes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
15. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS is complete.

This program will install the BIOS Update, Revision 3002 for the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating Systems

• Please read the Sony Windows® XP Upgrade Information page, if the computer will be or has been upgraded to the Windows® XP operating system. If the new operating system is not installed or configured correctly, some updates may not install properly.
• Before installing this BIOS revision, you will need to prepare a 3½ bootable floppy disk to receive the BIOS installation files. For additional assistance, please see Creating a Bootable Floppy Disk for Windows XP BIOS Updates.
• You will need to connect the PCVA-UFD1 USB floppy disk drive (sold separately) to the system. Before installing this BIOS revision, you will also need to have the floppy disk inserted in the attached USB floppy disk drive.
• If the Windows XP upgrade is already installed: During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
